Gift of laughter from Israeli Medical clowns

Two medical clowns, Avital Dvory and Shlomi Golan, invited by the Embassy of Israel, arrived in Addis Ababa this week to provide therapeutic medical clowning to pediatric and adult patients and their families in the Black Lion Hospital. The Israeli medical clowns will team up with Fikat Circus to present improvisations and circus arts that will bring laughter and joy and relief anxiety and pain among the patients. Avital and Shlomi will also conduct medical clowning workshops during their stay in Addis Ababa.
Several studies already proved how the presence of medical clowns significantly reduces the level of anxiety among children as part of medical care. The Israel Dream Doctors project integrates professional medical clowns into the medical services provided at Israeli hospitals. The Dream Doctors activity transforms patients and families hospitalization into a more pleasant and less traumatic experience.
