    Certificate of Citizenship / Non - Citizenship

    A certificate attesting to Israeli citizenship or non-citizenship can be ordered through the consulate.

    The documentation can be ordered only in an appointment at the Consulate. 

     An appointment can be scheduled in advance (by phone or email). Please bring the necessary documentation to the meeting.

    The Certificates are issued in Israel and sent to the Consulate. Estimated time of arrival is more than three months. Upon arrival, the certificate can be collected from the Consulate or it can be sent by registered post, at an additional cost.

    The certificates are issued only in Hebrew.

     

    Renunciation of Israeli Citizenship

    The procedure of renunciation is intended for Israeli citizens residing abroad and wishing to renounce their citizenship.

    An Israeli citizen wishing to renounce their Israeli citizenship must attend an appointment in the consulate and declare that they wish to do so. Their application will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior and is subjected to the consent of the Minister of Interior, or a person authorized by him.

    The applicant is still an Israeli citizen until approval is received by the Minister of Interior, and must enter and exit Israel with a valid Israeli passport.

    Please note, that in some cases the Minister of Interior can deny the request for varying reasons.

     

    Conditions for submitting a request:

    1.       The applicant must hold another citizenship or have an official letter from the relevant authority of their new country that states that they will receive citizenship after renouncing their Israeli citizenship (This letter must have a validity of at least 2 years).

    2.       The applicant has fulfilled all their duties with the Ministry of Interior, reported all changes in marital status, arranged their military status with the Israel Defense Forces, registered all the births abroad, and has no unpaid debts etc...

    3.       The applicant is no longer a resident of The State of Israel (has resided abroad at least 3 out of 5 consecutive years)

    4.       If only one spouses is applying for renunciation and also including children who are minors in the request – the other spouse (if they are an Israeli citizen) must provide a letter giving their consent or dissent for the renunciation of their children’s citizenship.

     

    Stages of the process:

    ·       If needed, updating the Populations Registry with marital status, and registering births​ of any children abroad. For more information, please refer to The Updating Personal Status​ page.

    ·       The applicant must bring an Israeli passport for the purpose of identification.

    ·       Submission of the application:

    - Adult – declaration of renunciation of Israeli citizenship for Adult​

    - Minor – declaration of renunciation of Israeli citizenship for Minor​

    ·       ​The applicant must present a passport of the country in which they have received the new citizenship or an official letter from the relevant authority of the country, that states that they will receive the citizenship after renouncing their Israeli citizenship (This letter must have a validity of at least 2 years, be officially translated into English or Hebrew and verified by an apostille stamp).

    ·       Military Status must be sorted.

    ·       The request is sent to the Ministry of Interior, a decision is usually received within 6 months

    ·       The applicant must pay a fee for the application as is stated in the Consular Fee Chart​​​
