Women Empowerment

  •   Mashav launches an International Course on ''Political and Economic Aspects of Women's Empowerment'', June 12-29, 2017 in Israel.
  •

Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV) with UN Women Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), with Africa Center for Transformative and Inclusive Leadership (ACTIL) and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) invites professionals to participate in the International Course on: Political and Economic Aspects of Women's Empowerment, from 12th to 29th June 2017, in Israel.

    Background
Gender equality and women's empowerment are both human rights and are necessary for achieving comprehensive, unbiased, and sustainable development.
Women need to actively participate in government and politics in order to maintain democracy. Global statistics clearly show that women are under-represented as leaders, elected officials, and voters due to cultural and social norms, which limit their participation in the political process.
Economic independence is key for women’s empowerment and access to education and leadership positions. Promotion of women entrepreneurs as part of the development programs for small and medium-sized businesses has become a priority among countries, especially developing ones, where more and more attention is paid to the need for the development of women, their active participation in the mainstream of the development process and achievement of development goals.
    Aims
The aim of the Course is to enhance women’s leadership through individual leadership skills development, tools for the promotion of citizens’ participation and leadership in the community, as well as strategies related to women's economic empowerment.
The course will provide participants with direct exposure and learning from good practices and approaches in the participants' countries and those developed in Israel, as well as international perspectives provided by UN agencies.
    Objectives
 -Encouraging and supporting women to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to enter politics and to advance in public life.
 -Recognizing gender biases in local governance and obstacles to the equal participation of women.
 -Sharing existing tools for running campaigns, public speaking, and additional communication skills.
 -Enhancing confidence and skills needed to deliver training to diverse groups.
 -Becoming familiarized with the concept of transformational leadership in politics.
