MFA Staff protest

Media report MFA staff protests

The staff of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is not showing any signs of relenting in their labour protest against the government of Israel.

Three months into the dispute over what the MFA staff consider as unfair working conditions and inadequate remuneration by comparison to other government corps, the protest has moved up from requests for a review of working conditions to restrictions in services offered staff by the ministry.

It is expected, according to workers' union leaders, that if the government of Israel does not engage in negotiations with the syndicates, the protest may escalate into a full-blown strike.

Already, the restrictions in services offered by the MFA in the past few months have had a considerable dent in the ability of the government to conduct its foreign policy. A complete shut-down of consular services is a possibility under consideration by the protesters.
