On 14 February , Japan's largest Internet service company "Rakuten" has announced that it will acquire Israeli messaging platform "Viber" for $900 million.

Viber has 300 million registered users in 193 countries, and it's one of the top five most downloaded smartphone phone call and messaging apps.

The deal will bring a large number of additional users to Rakuten's network, and gives them exposure to the fierce market of instant messaging and freemium voice-over-IP services.
