     What is Israel cuisine?

In its core, Israeli cuisine is fusion cuisine.

Jews Coming from all over the world (Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and even India!) brought their cuisine with them to Israel, where it was fused with local Jews and Arab cuisines.

Israeli food is characterized by its freshness and the heavy use of vegetables and fruits (Israel is vegetarian heaven). Olive oil is also a key ingredient of Israeli cuisine. So, on top of being yummy- it’s also healthy!

    What’s in the booklet?

We’ve gathered a few relatively simple recipes for you to try at home and share with family and friends. Some of the ingredients might be a bit harder to find in Japan, but the fun thing is – you can mix it up and make it your own (fusion cuisine – remember?).

Enjoy and Bete’ Avon! (Hebrew for Bon Appetit).

If you would like to get those pamphlet ( " Jazz ", " recipe" ) , please let us know your name and postal address by e-mail ( contact at the end of the newsletter ) .

Born in Tel Aviv in 1983, began playing guitar at age 10. This young prodigy was soon invited to perform with many of the nation’s top jazz musicians. By the age of 21, Silberstein has won the coveted “Israeli Jazz Player of The Year” title. Soon after, he performed at Italy’s renowned Umbria Jazz Festival, released a critically acclaimed debut album and set out on an extensive tour of Europe and the Middle East. Upon receiving a scholarship to the prestigious New School, Yotam Silberstein moved to New York in 2005. Praise continued to pour in as a finalist in the 2005 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition with one critic noting, “Yotam’s tones are exquisitely old school but his playing fresh, fiery and bursting with joyful exuberance, and musically he is one heavy cat.” Jazz Times noted, “Since his arrival in New York in 2005, Israeli guitarist Yotam Silberstein has made an impact on the scene with his precision bebop lines and fleet fingered improvisation. All About Jazz summed up his 2009 release, “Next Page” as “unadorned hollow-body guitar work freely invites comparison to releases from the heyday of Blue Note Records. He isn’t piggy backing on memories. He’s forging his own path with skills and style.”

    Camila Meza & Shai Maestro

Shai Maestro became completely familiar among Japanese jazz fans recently. Keith Jarrett also praised his beautifully delicate and strong bold touch with exotic arrangement.
This time Shai will perform with Chile born of vocal and guitarist Camila Meza as a first Duo Tour in Japan.

Camila Meza, originally from Santiago, Chile, has garnered rapt attention from her colleagues, the press, and audiences in South America, New York City, and internationally, for her distinctive ability in blending jazz with her broad musical world (that includes Latin American, Brazilian, folk and pop), and for the emotional depth of her music. This rising star on the global jazz scene has been described by The New York Times as, "a bright young singer and guitarist with an ear for music of both folkloric and pop intention," and called, "a natural multi-talent, an improvising singer-guitarist who is one of the finest in the world in both creative realms," by pianist Aaron Goldberg.

    Avishai Cohen (b)

Born and raised in Israel, Avishai Cohen has often combined Middle Eastern and Israeli music with both electric and acoustic jazz. Cohen began studying the piano at age 11 and was 14 when he became interested in jazz. After playing piano in a high-school jazz band, Cohen switched to the electric bass and soon fell in love with the music of Jaco Pastorius. Cohen was 16 when he enrolled in the Music & Arts High School in Jerusalem, and as a young adult, he played a few local gigs in Jerusalem before being drafted into the Israeli army. When Cohen's two years in the military ended, he was able to concentrate on jazz once again and decided to try the acoustic bass, which became his main instrument for much of the 1990s. In 1992, Cohen moved to New York without having any real connections there, and ended up paying the rent doing moving and construction work. But after making some connections in the New York jazz scene, Cohen went on to play live gigs with such notables as Ravi Coltrane, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Paquito D'Rivera, Roy Hargrove, and Leon Parker. One of his most fruitful associations was with Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez, who employed him on his 1996 session, Panamonk. After coming to the attention of Chick Corea and his longtime business partner, Ron Moss, Cohen was signed to their Stretch label and recorded his first album, Adama, in 1997. The following year, Corea hired Cohen to play in his newly created acoustic outfit, Origin. Colors was released in mid-2000, followed by a string of recordings for the RazDaz label. In recent years, Cohen has moved back to Israel. (Artist Biography by Alex Henderson) http://avishaicohen.com/

      8. The 2nd GAGA workshop  &  Creation workshop

Gaga is the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin throughout his work as a choreographer and Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company.

Gaga has two tracks: Gaga/dancers, which is the daily training of Batsheva Dance Company members, now taught also for other dancers in Israel and abroad; and Gaga/people, open to the public and available for anyone, without the necessity of previous experience. Gaga classes are held for a growing number of people in the Suzanne Dellal Centre and at additional places in the country and abroad.

Gaga is an experience of freedom and pleasure. The work improves instinctive movement and connects conscious and unconscious movement, and it allows for an experience of freedom and pleasure in a simple way, in a pleasant space, in comfortable clothes, accompanied by music, each person with himself and others.

“We explore multi-dimensional movement, we enjoy the burning sensation in our muscles, we are aware of our explosive power and sometimes we use it. We change our movement habits by finding new ones, we can be calm and alert at once. We become available . . ."  - Ohad Nahari

    . New book

Sapiens   - A Brief History of Humankind 』 by Yuval Noah Harari Kawadeshobo-shinsha publishing house, translated Hiroyuki Shibata, 1900 yen (without tax)

    New York Times Bestseller

"I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a fun, engaging look at early human history…you’ll have a hard time putting it down."--Bill Gates

"Thank God someone finally wrote [this] exact book."--Sebastian Junger

    Ho

mo sapiens rules the world because it is the only animal that can believe in things that exist purely in its own imagination, such as gods, states, money and human rights.

Starting from this provocative idea, Sapiens goes on to retell the history of our species from a completely fresh perspective. It explains that money is the most pluralistic system of mutual trust ever devised; that capitalism is the most successful religion ever invented; that the treatment of animals in modern agriculture is probably the worst crime in history; and that even though we are far more powerful than our ancient ancestors, we aren’t much happier.
By combining profound insights with a remarkably vivid language, Sapiens has already acquired almost cultic status among diverse audiences, captivating teenagers as well as university professors, animal rights activists alongside government ministers. It is currently being translated into close to thirty languages.

    Yuval Noah Harari
He was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1976. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in 2002, and is now a lecturer at the Department of History, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He specialized in World History, medieval history and military history. His current research focuses on macro-historical questions: What is the relation between history and biology? What is the essential difference between Homo sapiens and other animals? Is there justice in history? Does history have a direction? Did people become happier as history unfolded?
Prof. Harari also teaches a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) titled A Brief History of Humankind.
More than 80,000 students from throughout the world have participated in the first run of the course in 2013. The second run began in August 2014, and in its first three weeks 30,000 students joined it.
Prof. Harari twice won the Polonsky Prize for Creativity and Originality, in 2009 and 2012. In 2011 he won the Society for Military History’s Moncado Award for outstanding articles in military history.

In 2012 he was elected to the Young Israeli Academy of Sciences. http://www.ynharari.com/
