    1.       How Do I Apply for Confirmation of Non-Criminal Record?

    You are required to submit: The application form, copy of your Passport, The address of the requesting office, as well as your file number.

    A pre-paid register mail envelope or a fee of $13.00 for the mailing of the Police certificate.

    Only cash or money order accepted.

     

    What if I Cannot Appear in Person?

    If you cannot appear in person, you can apply directly online with the Israeli Police (police.gov.il)

    Or send your application via mail to the embassy to: Embassy of Israel, Ottawa I 50 O’Connor K1P6L2, ON, Canada.

    If using the website option, ONE MONTH after submitting the application, contact us by email (consuldep@ottawa.mfa.gov.il) to confirm that we have received your certificate. Once it has been confirmed that the document is in our office, you are required to mail a pre-paid register mail envelope for the certificate to be sent to the requesting office via mail.

     

    2.       How do I apply for a Deferral of Military Status?

    Upon reaching the age of 16.5, every Israeli citizen/resident, even if they are living or staying abroad for any reason, is obligated by the Defense Service Law to establish their status with the Israel Defense Forces authorities.

    A person who is designated for defense service and is called to report under a general call up order must report in Israel at the place and at the time specified in the order. If the person is located abroad, they can report to the diplomatic/consular representative at the Mission. In order to do so, the following guidelines need to be followed:

     1. Complete the form “Registration /Application to defer military service for Israeli citizens staying abroad”.

     2. The passport of the person that is designated for defense service.

     3. Photocopies of his parents’ passports.

    Please note that if a decision is made to defer the service of a person designated for defense service, while they are staying abroad with their parents, a letter will be issued explaining the conditions and restrictions applying to the person in everything pertaining to the time frames of their visits to Israel. Also note that the Israeli Defense Forces authorities may ask the person designated for defense service for further documentation, in which case the person will be notified by the diplomatic/consular representative.

     

    3.    How to apply for a B/2 visitor visa?

    The B/2 visa is granted to someone who wishes to stay in Israel for only a short time (for a visit, tourism, a business meeting or study in a Hebrew ulpan). A person who enters Israel on a B/2 visa is not allowed to work in the State of Israel.

    B/2 visa is valid for up to three months from the date of issue. The process to be handled at the mission: 1. A passport/travel document that is valid for at least six months beyond the period of the stay in Israel 2. Valid PR in Canada  3. A completed and signed application for a visa to enter Israel 4. Proof of the applicant's sufficient financial means for the visit to Israel (Bank Statement) 5. Order for round trip airline tickets to and from Israel + hotel reservation  6. Two passport pictures (5X5) 7. Payment and return mail envelope: Refer to Payment Table 8. Letter of employment  9. Invitation Letter (if applicable).

     

    4.    How to apply for A/2 Student visa?

    Please note the following change to regulations: The procedures have been updated and in order to obtain a student visa for religious institutions, seminars and Secondary schools, the student must be invited by the institution through the Ministry of Interior in Israel only.

    The visa is valid for up to one year and for multiple entrances and exits. Recipients of this visa are not permitted to work in Israel. The visa is granted to students who provide the following: * Completed and signed application for a visa to enter Israel * Two passport pictures (5X5) * Certification of acceptance for study at a recognized educational institution in Israel * Proof that the student has the financial means to pay for his studies and sustenance throughout his stay in Israel * A travel document that is valid for at least one year, provided that his country has a diplomatic mission in the State of Israel. If there is no such mission in Israel, the passport must be valid for the entire period of studies and another six months beyond that time * Payment of the fee -$63 * Proof of down payment for the tuition fee.

     

    5.       Do I need to renew or extend my passport?

    An Israeli passport issued to an adult is valid for 10 years and for 5 years for a minor.

    For adults - if 10 years have passed since the passport was issued, please contact the Embassy to obtain a new passport. If less than 10 years have elapsed since the passport was issued, it can be extended up to the full 10 years.

     

    6.    How Do I extend a Passport?

    An adult’s passport can be extended only if the passport is less than 10 years old. A minor’s passport can be extended only if the passport is less than 5 years old.

    Important: If your travel document was extended for a shorter period than usual you might need to arrange your marital status/army deferral, or you may need to visit Israel.

    In order to extend passport for an adult at the Embassy you will need: 1. To bring your current passport; 2. An application to extend your travel document - you will need to sign the application at the Embassy. In order to extend passport for an adult via mail – you need to send by registered mail: 1. Your current passport; 2. An application to extend your travel document - you will need to fill in and sign in where indicated; 3. Paid return envelope (registered mail) - see table of fees on our website. In order to extend passport for a minor at the Embassy you will need: 1. To bring the minor’s passport. 2. To appear at the Embassy with the minor in person. 3. An application to extend the travel document - you will need to sign the application at the Embassy. If the parents are married, only one (Israeli) parent is needed at the Embassy, but he/she must bring both parents’ passports as well as the minor’s passport; in addition, both parents need to sign the application form. If the parents are separated, both parents need to sign the application at the Embassy or at any branch of the Ministry of Interior in Israel. The signature of one parent is permitted only in cases when a court order indicates that the parent has been given sole custody of the minor.

    

    7.       How Do I Register a Child Who Was Born Abroad to Israeli Citizens?

    Section 11 of the Registration of Population Law states that "A resident to whom a child is born abroad must notify the registration clerk of his child's registration details, within 30 days."

    Procedure for submitting "notification of the birth of an Israeli citizen abroad" In order to register a child who was born abroad to Israeli citizens, one of the Israeli parents must appear in person before the diplomatic / consular representative at the Embassy and implement the registration process, during which the following will be required:

    1. Filling out and signing the form “Notification of the Birth of an Israeli Citizen Abroad”

    2. The original birth certificate, authenticated by the Canadian ministry of Foreign Affairs 

    3. Release form from the hospital indicating the name of the mother.

    4. Photocopies of the parents' passports 5. If the parents are married and there is no record to that effect in the Population Registry of the State of Israel, their verified marriage certificate must be presented.

    Issuing a passport for a minor who was just registered: In order to issue a passport for a minor, one of the Israeli parents must appear in person with the child before the diplomatic / consular representative at the Embassy.

    1. Fill out an application for a passport 2. Provide two passport pictures (5X5) 3. Pay the fee. Comment: In case the mother is not an Israeli citizen, and the parents of the child are not married or the child was born less than 10 months after their marriage, the Israeli father must contact the Embassy for further instruction before appearing to register the child.

     

    8.       How Do I Notify Of A Change In My Marital Status?

    The State of Israel requires all citizens to notify the Government regarding a change in marital status even if the citizen is abroad. In order to do so you will need to:

     1. Download the form notification of change in marital status (marriage/divorce/widowhood).

     2. Come to the Embassy in person.

    3. Bring the original certificate (marriage/death or court order) supporting the change in status, the certificate must be authenticated by the Canadian ministry of Foreign Affairs .

    4. Bring your passport and your spouse’s passport.

    5. Pay a fee (see fees table)

     

    9.    How Do I Notaries a Canadian document? 

    You need to bring or send to the embassy the document that needs to be notaries.

    The document must be first authenticated by the Canadian ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    A fee of 18 CAD required for each document and a return (register mail) envelop must be submitted in case you can’t come to the embassy.
