In our tradition, a celebration and commemoration starts on the eve before the event itself so we chose August 18 – a day before President Manuel Quezon’s August 19 birthday to celebrate and remember his role in saving Jewish lives from the Holocaust and his moral victory on the backdrop of the darkest days in human history.
The Embassy of Israel joined hands with the Quezon City Museum and Experience by establishing and producing a special memorial corner and presentation in the museum. We had the official launch and opening, and it will be a lasting testimony for this beautiful chapter and shining moment of pride in Philippine history. The short video documentary was produced by Sarge Lacuesta at the Malacanang section of the museum.
This occasion had keynote speeches of President’s Quezon’s grandson and historian-writer Manuel Quezon III, and historian Dr. Ricardo Jose, and attended by DFA Undersecretary Ariel Abadilla, Quezon City Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, students from different universities around town and other guests.
