Mr. Choshen previously met with Philippine officials, most notably, during the 6th (2012) and 7th (2013) Joint Commission Meetings in Manila and Jerusalem, respectively.
His visit focused on improving the countries' economic relations and called on Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Ms. Laura Del Rosario, and Assistant Secretary Petronila Garcia of the Office of Middle East and African Affairs.
Other activities included meetings with prominent members of the education and business sectors.
He also met with the Israeli Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines to discuss new areas of investments and opportunities of Israeli companies in the country. Private sector partnership, tie-ups and tourism promotion were discussed, among other matters.
Israel and the Philippines share strong historical ties – with the Philippines opening its doors to Holocaust-fleeing Jews during Manuel Quezon's presidency and as the only Asian country to vote for the creation of Israel in 1947. Since then, the two countries share mutual and strong interests in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
