The City of Marikina marked its 385th founding anniversary, in partnership with the Israel Embassy, highlighting the city's unique position in the history of the two nations.
The estate of former President Manuel Quezon was in Marikina. Through President Quezon's noble act of humanity and open heart, the doors of the Philippines were opened to many Jewish refugees prior to World War II. Not only did he open the doors of the country, he opened the gates of Marikina as their first residence in the Philippines where they established a special communal village.
In honor of this event, the City Hall hosted a special exhibition on the Jewish community of the Philippines, with special emphasis on the rescue in the Philippines and the moral victory of the Philippines over the moral collapse of many of the so-called enlightened nations in Europe.
