Dov Segev-Steinberg arrived to Helsinki in July and presented his credentials to President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö on September 1st 2016. He represents Israel both in Finland and Estonia. The Ambassador has previously served, among others, in the USA, Egypt, South Africa and India. During his service years in the Israeli Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem he has concentrated especially on Middle East themes.
“I have lived mostly in very arid regions and arriving to Finland in the middle of the summer was a very impressive experience: the lush green and lakes are something I had not experienced ever before. It has been very easy to settle in, being surrounded by the friendliness of the people and the fascinating atmosphere of Helsinki.”
”The friendship of Finland and Israel has long roots – reaching back to time even before the founding of the State of Israel. During my years in Finland I want to strengthen these ties in many areas, especially culture, science and economy.”
”I am a friend of the arts. My mother was a photographer by profession and I grew up surrounded by visual beauty. Myself I am a music person. I like jazz, as well as classical music and my absolute favorite is vocal music. It is wonderful to get to live in the country of Sibelius. In recent years I have had the honor to get to know also Estonian music through the Festivals of Estonian music in Israel, hosted by Andres Mustonen. For a vocal music lover like me it is great to represent Israel in two countries that have such a strong culture and high level of choirs and singing that there is in Finland and Estonia.”
“My roots are in Central Europe – both of my parents survived the Holocaust and moved to Israel. Before arriving to Finland I had not served in Europe before and arriving here has felt like a circle is closing.”
