    Israel Independence Day (Yom HaAzmaut) is celebrated annually on the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel according to the Hebrew calendar. This year, the celebrations of Israel´s 64th year of independence commenced in the evening of April 25, and continued until the evening of April 26.
     
    In Finland, Israel´s 64th anniversary was celebrated at a reception hosted by Ambassador Dan Ashbel and his wife Zehava Ashbel in Uunisaari Island, Helsinki on April 26.
     
    The day preceding this celebration - Remembrance Day (Yom HaZikaron) - is devoted to the memory of those who gave their lives for the achievement of the country´s independence and its continued existence. A total of 22,993 men and women have been killed defending the land of Israel since 1860.
