The Consulate General of Israel to South
India celebrated Israel’s 71st Independence Day by
giving back to the community in which they live and operate, instead of hosting
the traditional national day reception. As part of this initiative, the
Consulate has partnered with Rotary Bangalore R.T.Nagar, in their safe drinking
water scheme.
Scarcity of water is a challenge that India and Israel are tackling
together. Partnering with Rotary Bangalore R.T.Nagar & Tata Projects to
provide clean water to the village of Vemgal, Kolar district, is one more step
in facing this challenge together.
Rotary in partnership with Tata Projects are setting up the pure water
kiosks. The RO unit was set up in Nov 2018 in Vemgal to serve the needs of
around 1000 families. While the other similar kiosks charge ₹ 1 per litre, the
Rotary Kiosk provides 20 litres at a time at the cost of ₹ 5, which also takes
care of local employment to oversee, operational costs like electricity and
maintenance and support for the RO unit, making it a fully self-sustained
operation. The water from the kiosk is clean, free of germs, filtered for salts
and other sediments and assures safe drinking water.
However, water stored in the normal water cans and repeatedly used,
develops mold, algae and fungus defeating the very purpose of providing clean
water. Keeping these issues in mind, Tata Projects has developed special CANs
that are Nano coated with antifungal agent that prevent development of fungus
and mold. Mr. Ariel Seidman, Deputy Consul General of Israel to South India,
distributed these Nano coated special CANs to the beneficiary families of
Vemgal village. These families will be able to collect and store water without
any fear of health issues.
