Consul General Opher Aviran congratulated Prof. Shechtman on winning the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and showed the guests a short clip about Prof. Shechtman and the prestigious Technion institute.
Prof. Shechtman was very excited by the gesture and kindly thanked the hosts. Prof. Shechtman chose not to talk about his famous research and instead focused on three vital issues that he believes are important for any society: Education, Technology Entrepreneurship and Nuclear Technology for Peace.
Prof. Shechtman emphasized the important role of education and described why it is so important to foster educational leadership for teaching. He also pointed out that our future depends on our ability to develop technology entrepreneurship. He believes that countries which do not develop technological entrepreneurship are more vulnerable to being left behind in the race to adapt to the rapidly changing economy.
Finally, Prof. Shechtman referred to the importance of developing nuclear technology for peace, despite the calculated risk of potential failure that could happen. According to his belief, it is just a matter of time until nuclear energy will replace the common resources we use today.
