The relationship between the city of Columbus, Georgia and Israel is only strengthening, following a day of collaboration between prominent members of the Columbus community and the Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast, organized with the assistance of Columbus State University President Dr. Tim Mescon and his staff.
Consul General of Israel to the Southeast Opher Aviran met with Columbus State University deans and faculty to discuss academic collaboration opportunities between Israel and Columbus.
The Israel-Columbus delegation received a command briefing at United States Army post Fort Benning, located just south of Columbus. The team also met with Fort Benning Commander Major General H.R. McMaster on current geostrategic issues concerning Israel, the Middle East, and the United States, as well as further opportunities for U.S.-Israeli military partnership.
Following Consul General Aviran's delivery of an address on the U.S.-Israel alliance to the Columbus Rotary Club, the delegation met with Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson to discuss further partnership opportunities.
Consul General Aviran gave a lecture on the status of the Middle East and strategic issues to students and faculty of Columbus State University, and concluded the day with a reception for the opening of the art exhibit, "Aliyah: The Rebirth of Israel," by renowned 20th-century artist Salvador Dali at the W.C. Bradley Company Museum in Columbus. The exhibition will remain open through the end of October.
