    Special Session – November 29, 2017

Delivered by Mr. Brian E. Frenkel,
Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Advisor

Israel assigns great importance to the issue of integrity in sports. This is why the Ministry of Culture and Sports developed the ethical code for sports, which stipulates the core values that should guide all those who engage in sporting activities. Indeed, the first core value of sports is integrity, and the code emphasizes this as follows:

"The commitment to integrity and fairness in sports is the basis for meaningful and longstanding achievements. Only a fair achievement is worthwhile and recognizable. Only through fair competition and integrity can an athlete fulfil his educational and social objectives both personally, publicly and nationally. Integrity is the most fundamental value of sports, and requires all relevant stakeholders to pay extra attention to its implementation."

Therefore, we commend Italy for organizing this event and we support the idea of bringing all the different stakeholders together to share best practices and develop common standards and solutions.
