The 8th edition of
Fresh Paint Contemporary Art & Design Fair, Tel-Aviv, will take place 5-9 April 2016 in YARID HAMIZRACH, at the Tel Aviv Port. The fair is held in cooperation with the Tel-Aviv municipality, and supported, for the third consecutive year, by UBS Wealth Management, head sponsor of Art Basel, the world's leading contemporary art Fair. This year, the fair pays tribute to the first international Fair that took place in 1932 in the same location as Fresh Paint 8.
This year, for the first time since it was founded and in the spirit of YARID HAMIZRACH's heritage, Fresh Paint Fair presents a themed exhibition by international and Israeli artists. Also on view at the fair: leading galleries, the promising, independent artists' greenhouse and the Fresh Design section.
The international works will include a large installation by Japanese artist Onishi Yasuaki, a performance by the Romanian artist Szilard Gaspar and a photographic series by the Senegal artist Fabrice Monteiro. s part of the fair's collaboration with leading Israeli art institutions, the video art greenhouse, supported by Outest non-profit organization will be curated by the Tel-Aviv Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), led by Sergio Edelstein. The Igal Ahouvi Collection will present a special project at the fair, and Sotheby's Auction House will continue to grant the Under the Hammer Prize to an outstanding work of art from the Greenhouse.
Fresh Paint Contemporary Art & Design Fair, Tel-Aviv is the largest and most influential annual art event in Israel. Making contemporary art purchasing accessible, the fair brings together art lovers and professionals with the general public. The location was chosen for its ability to provide proper exhibition spaces, maximum accessibility, proximity to large parking spaces, its being a central location that is easy to walk or bike to, and its ability to serve more than 35,000 visitors, as attended the fair in previous years.
Galleries participating in Fresh Paint present special projects, curated especially for the fair, creating a rich, colorful and stimulating exhibition, promoting discourse between the audience, the artists and the gallerists. Among the Israeli galleries that will participate this year are: Gordon Gallery, Givon Art Gallery, Rosenfeld Gallery, Litvak Gallery, Zemack Gallery, 45 Florentine Art Gallery, Mika Gallery, Dan Gallery, Tiroche Gallery, Triangle Art Space, P8 Gallery, The Gottesman Etching Center - Kibutz Cabri and the Modern Art Gallery, Nazareth. LETO gallery from Poland, with a solo exhibition by Radek Szlaga, and a.antonopoulou.art gallery from Greece, with a duo exhibition by artists Rania Rangou and Mark Hadjipateras, will join the local galleries.
The artists' greenhouseFresh Paint's independent artists' Greenhouse is an original model, providing exposure to about 50 emerging artists at the beginning of their professional careers every year. The artists are selected by twelve committee members, among them curators, gallerists, art critics and collectors from Israel and the world. The Greenhouse concept developed from a desire to locate and expose emerging artists to a large audience. The application process is anonymous and the committee members change yearly promising diversity in content and equal opportunity for the artists.
Fresh designFresh Design will offer an updated overview of contemporary Israeli design. It will include various exhibitions of some 20 emerging product designers such as Shai Carmon, Sarah Shuraki Siskin, Kamidoro Studio, Mikabarr, Studio Kahn and Kobi Siboni, as well as new projects by leading designers such as Yaacov Kaufman, Dov Ganschrow and Tal Gur, and design institutions such as: Gal Gaon, Saga and Terminal. . A Swedish design project will join the local offerings.
The Secret Postcard, Fresh Paint's leading project for the community will take place this year for the eighth time. The project offers for sale more than a thousand original postcard-size works by well-known artists, alongside emerging artists and students. The postcards are offered for a fixed price of 180 NIS per postcard which are sold anonymously. The identity of the artist is revealed only after purchase has been made. The project's revenue, more than 1M NIS to date, is fully donated to the Meyerhoff Art Education Center at the Tel-Aviv Museum of art, to provide scholarships for underprivileged youth excelling in the arts. These scholarships enable teenagers to participate in the museum's courses, express their talent, advance and gain experience in art, creation and self-expression.
