Moroccan film director Kamal Hachkar returned to his birthplace, Tinghir in the Atlas Mountains, to search out a "missing piece" of his own past - the town's Jewish community. Most of the ancient Jewish community of Morocco left between the creation of Israel in 1948 and Morocco's independence in 1956.

The resulting documentary, "Tinghir-Jerusalem," examines the relationship between the Jewish and Muslim communities through the stories of Jews who left and Muslims who remained. Kamal Hachkar, who divides his time between Morocco and France, says that he tried to avoid ideological issues and instead show the coexistence between Jews and Muslims, hopefully to set an example for future generations.
