The Israeli Mamanet league is the largest social-sports project specifically for moms. Established in 2005, it has since spread to thousands of players across the country
and all over the world. Mamanet allows moms to relive their younger days as athletes, or experience being part of a sports league for the first time. The league is associated with their children's schools, so that the entire project is community based.
The game is a competitive game similar to volleyball, but the players must catch the ball before passing it. Each Mamanet team consists of 8-12 women, who meet weekly for a team practice and then compete against each other during the Mamanet League Season, with the mothers representing their children's schools. Instead of being the "soccer mom" who drives her children to practice and cheers them on by the sidelines, the mother becomes the "star" of the game, and the children become her fans!
The nature of a team means working together, and the Mamanet League is also a starting point for community volunteer work. Both mothers and children have participated in many group volunteer activities which strengthen the community.
Ofra Abramovich, founder of Mamanet, a sports league exclusively for mothers, speaks about creativity.
