Military status

  •

The IDF representative will come to the consulate in Paris on 27-28/05/24 and the consulate in London on 29/05/24 and hold interviews with candidates for military service who are interested in receiving more details about military service (see the add below).

To register to the interview - https://forms.gle/E8S6AiEUHhMMw38f7

The Defense Service Law applies to every Israeli citizen living in Israel and abroad, including those who have additional citizenship, and those who live abroad on a permanent basis.

The IDF recognizes candidates for service whose center of life is abroad and postpones their service until the age of 26.

An Israeli citizen whose center of life was outside Israel until the age of 26 and deferred enlistment does not need to enlist in the military.

The procedure for deferring the recruitment of an Israeli citizen whose center of life is outside Israel is called deferment of military status.

The deferment of military service, does not require the presence of the minor at the consulate and can be done by email.

    Required documents:

    1.     An up-to-date Israeli passport of the candidate’s parents and if they also hold a foreign citizenship, an up-to-date foreign passport.

    2.    An Israeli passport of the candidate for service and if they also hold a foreign citizenship, an up-to-date foreign passport.

    3.    Completed and signed application form for deferment of military status (7202)

    4.    A letter from the school or a confirmation from the municipality about the residential address of the current year. To prove that the candidate’s center of life from at the current year is outside the State of Israel.

    * Please make sure that the name of the candidate and the dates are clearly indicated on the documents.

    5.  If the candidate's parents are divorced, an original judgment agreement (detailing the custody of the candidate) must be presented with an apostille stamp. The document must be translated into Hebrew or English by a certified translator with an additional apostille stamp verifying the translation.

    • In some cases, additional documents will be required for the application and it will be necessary to wait for an answer from Meitav - responsible for enforcing the Security Service Law, and the recruitment process for compulsory service.

During the procedure, all the conditions and restrictions that apply to the deferment regarding visits to Israel will be explained to the candidate. The responsibility for meeting these conditions and restrictions applies to the candidate and their parents (until they reach the age of 18). These terms and conditions will be specified in a letter that the candidate will receive after completing the procedure for deferring military status.

It is not possible to extend the validity of a travel document for a candidate who has reached the age of 16 and 4 months and has not done a military deferment yet. Therefore, we recommend that you do not make any travel plans close to the appointment date and wait until a final answer is received and the process is finalized.
