Righteous Among the Nations - Slavonski Brod

    ​The late Stjepan Kirhofer from Slavonski Brod has been recognized as a Righteous Among the Nations at a ceremony in Slavonski Brod on May 17, 2022.

    The certificate of honour and the medal recognizing him as a Righteous Among the Nations was accepted by Mirta Kirhofer, granddaughter of the late Stjepan Kirhofer, and were presented by Ambassador of the State of Israel Ilan Mor.

    During the Holocaust, Stjepan Kirhofer took Ljubo Pechi, a young Jewish boy, under his care and found a way to save him and unite him with his family. Today, Ljubo Pechi lives in the United States, and after almost 80 years he came to Slavonski Brod and attended the ceremony!
