The continued Iranian presence undermines stability in Syria and the whole region. Assad is responsible and accountable for what happens in Syria and must pay a price for the continued presence of Iran and Hezbollah in his country.

    (Communicated by the MFA Spokesperson)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi welcomes the Caesar Act legislation that comes into force today (Wednesday, 17 June 2020). The legislation passed by the United States Congress will increase the economic pressure on the Assad regime.
FM Ashkenazi thanks President Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the rest of the US Administration, as well as Congress, for their commitment to this issue. It is important to continue to use all means to achieve the full withdrawal of Iran and all its proxies, chief among them Hezbollah, from Syria.
