Tu Bi’shvat

Tu Bi’ Shvat is a Jewish holiday occurring on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat (in 2016, Tu Bi’ Shvat begins at sunset on 24 January and ends at nightfall on 25 January). It is also called "Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot, literally "New Year of the Trees."

In Israel, the day is celebrated as an ecological awareness day, and trees are planted in celebration.
In honor of this year’s Tu Bi’shvat, the Jewish holiday which celebrates a new year for the trees, Ambassador Livne handed over a certificate to Mayor Celia Wade-Brown which states that the Embassy of Israel has planted 10 trees in name of the City of Wellington.

The trees will be planted in the Be’eri Forrest and supports JNF New Zealand is fundraising for the Nahal Assaf ANZAC Lookout, the central commemorative site to the ANZAC soldiers.
