Yesterday, diplomats from all over the world attended a unique dinner
hosted by Israel at the UN and Access Israel that simulated sensory loss and disability. On the same
day, we also hosted a panel with the Mission of Germany & Beit Issie Shapiro,
discussing how innovative technology can improve the quality of life for people
with disabilities.
Ladies and Gentleman,
Tonight, we hope to stimulate your senses, challenge your
comfort zone and invite you to experience a common dinner in an uncommon way.
For just a short
while, we will all get a taste of what it is like to live with physical
limitations.
As we experience this
unique dinner here tonight, keep in mind that people all around the world live
with these challenges every day, and have the strength to overcome them.
Israel is a young country, and we have had our own
struggles, but in the end we have succeeded beyond all expectations. Israel is
now leading the way with the innovative initiatives to improve the quality of
life and increase access for all.
Israel’s Parliament- the Knesset- passed groundbreaking
legislation to “protect the dignity and liberty of a person with disabilities
and anchor his/her right to equal and active participation in society in all
walks of life”.
Just today, we hosted a panel discussion on how to use
technology to transcend physical limitations. You would not believe what
Israelis’ famous ingenuity is doing to make life easier for people all around
the world
We are driven by the spirit of Tikun Olam, the mandate to do
our part to perfect the world, and by our concern that all members of our
society have the opportunity to reach their full potential- for the benefit of
all of us.
Enjoy the rest of tonight’s uniquely interactive dinner.
This first course was just the beginning. We promise the main course and
dessert will be just as special.
So, eat well, have fun, but keep in mind there is still a
lot more work to be done.
