​Professor Yuval Shany, an Israeli lawyer of international renown – was elected today to serve on UN’s Human Rights Committee. This marks the end of a year-long diplomatic campaign carried out by Israel’s UN Mission. It is a major achievement for Israel at the UN and a cause for national pride.
 
Ambassador Prosor commented, "This is further proof that Israel can achieve impressive results at the UN, even in the face of difficult conditions. Ever since I started in this position, we have set a goal of bringing Israel's knowledge and expertise to the UN and incorporating Israelis into key positions. Today we celebrate another achievement in that regard."
