Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Danny Ayalon, on an official visit to Greece, is the first foreign official to visit the country since the formation of the new government. He met with his host, Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis.
Deputy FM Dollis stressed in his meeting with Ayalon that the relations between the two countries that were upgraded in the past year would continue and be further strengthened in the near future, and will not be affected by the change of government in Greece. The two leaders agreed to convene members of the Jewish and Greek diasporas in countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, France and Britain. The meeting is planned to take place in the spring, in Thessaloniki.
The deputy foreign ministers discussed cooperation between Israel and Greece, as well as Cypus, concerning the subject of natural gas. Next week the Greek Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Giorgos Papakonstantinou, will visit Israel.
On Wednesday, 23 November, Deputy FM Ayalon will meet with the new Greek foreign minister, Stavros Dimas, and the new defense minister, Dimitris Avramopoulis, to discuss strengthening the relations between the two countries.
