GovXShortDescription
"Hanukkah is a holiday of independence and we are celebrating this year the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Hanukkah is a holiday of freedom and we live here in a country, where Jewish community has always been welcomed and never suffered from Anti-semitism or hate.
Hanukkah is a Holiday of sovereignty and next year 2013 the State of Israel will celebrate its 65th Independence Day.
Jews have always dreamed of Jerusalem, of Israel, of returning to their historic homeland - Zion. This is the essence of Zionism - a national home to the Jewish People.

Ambassador of Israel to Georgia

GovXContentSection
The Georgian Jews have played an important role in this history, not because of anti-semitism or lack of love for Georgia, but because of an old dream - the thrive for Zion, Jerusalem, even in the dark days of the Soviet Union.
In our family Hanukkah has some special meaning. My grandparents left Eastern Europe, where they were born and raised, in 1933. A year later my father was born - first son to be born in Israel. He was born in Hanukkah , they called him Yehuda, after the Maccabean family who led the Maccabean uprising in the 2nd century B.C. to regain independence and freedom.
I wish you Happy Hanukkah"
