San Francisco, CALIF--The Consul General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest, Shlomi Kofman, announced today that a highly trained, fully equipped task force of ten Israeli firefighters has been deployed to the State of California to assist in combating the wildfires throughout Northern California.

The firefighter task force departed Israel on August 29 and arrived in California on the morning of August 30. It is currently preparing to be deployed. The task force includes members with expertise in a range of firefighting tactics. Their operation will last approximately two weeks.

This operation was initiated by the Consulate General on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs by submitting an offer of assistance, which was accepted by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention. Within 48 hours of submitting the mutual aid offer, the Government of Israel mobilized this task force for immediate deployment.

The operation is taking place in the spirit of shared values and mutual respect that has been forged over many decades of partnership between Israel and California. Israel previously received similar aid in 2010 and 2016.

“This mission is also a reciprocal gesture for the United States after providing critical firefighting resources to Israel in the past,” said Kofman. “Israel is honored to be able to assist California in combating these wildfires that have ravaged so much of the state. We do this to honor the US firefighters who stood with us in the past. Israel cherishes its strong friendship with the people of the United States. Just as the United States provided emergency assistance to Israel in 2010 and 2016, we are honored to extend our hand in solidarity to our closest ally and longtime friend when needed,” said Kofman.
