Consulate General of Israel, Mumbai and Nirman Foundation cordially celebrated a “Fun Day” with Adivasi children living inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park on Wednesday 29th May 2013. The programme Consul General of Israel of Israel Mrs Orna Sagiv along with her colleagues sang, danced and played games with the tribal children. The visit was organized as part of a CSR initiative which helped the Israeli Consulate in Mumbai to interact with the local community and good Samaritans working with them.
Nirman Foundation is an NGO comprised of the residents of Raheja Estate, Borivali, a suburb of Mumbai. It has been working for education and welfare of the tribal children living in remote padas (hamlets) inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The Nirman Foundation members especially Ms. Mary Barnes and Ms. Sangeeta Jain go to the municipal school every day and give an egg and a pack of biscuits to around 70 tribal children attending the school since the last 7 years. They also encourage residents of Raheja Estate to donate bicycles to the tribal children.
While explaining the objective behind this initiative, the Consul General of Israel in Mumbai Mrs Orna Sagiv said, “As the diplomats, most of our time goes in promoting trade, investments and bilateral relations between Israel and India. It is important for us to take some time out from the business lunches, high teas and cocktail parties and spend it with the society in which we live. In the past, we have organized programmes for various sections of the society such as orphanages, girl schools and MCGM hospitals. This will be our first interaction with the tribal children living inside Mumbai.
