Stressing that Jews were the first victims of State
organized genocide in modern world history, Consul General Orna Sagiv
emphasized the universal significance of the lessons to be learnt from the
Holocaust and urged people to acquire greater awareness and appreciation of the
dangers posed by hatred, racism, fanaticism and brinkmanship. She assailed the
Iranian leadership, legally bound by UN conventions, for brazenly denying the
occurrence of the Holocaust and threatening Israel with annihilation.
She was
speaking at the opening function, on the 6th of November 2012, at St. Xavier’s
College, which was attended by Mr. Sumit Mullick IAS, Chief of Protocol, Govt.
of Maharashtra, the chief guest for the event; Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate
Dean of Simon Wiesenthal Center; Dr. Alfred Balitzer, Advisor to the Institute;
Ms. Mohini Mathur, Exe. Chairperson of MUNA; Fr. Dr. Frazer Mascarhenas SJ,
Principal of St. Xavier’s College; Mr. DR Kaarthikeyan, former Director of the
