An Initiative for Environmental Protection

  •
The members of the Shalom Club Nepal (Alumni of Nepali graduates from Israel) initiated a symbolic "Shalom Trail Project" at Gurje Bhanjyang section of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park to bring awareness to learn to love Nature's Beauty. Under this project, a walking trail had been marked and wooden steps were constructed. 12 important indigenous species of the plants that lie on the trail were marked with their Nepali and Scientific names along with their domestic as well as medicinal uses.

The Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, Jewish National Fund-Israel (KKL-JNF),  Shalom Club Nepal and the Embassy of Israel organized a program to mark the launching of 'Shalom Trail Project' on Wednesday, 13 November 2013 at Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park.

The Honourable Dr. Rabindra Kumar Shakya, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission and President of Shalom Club Nepal, Mr. Aviv Eizenband, Director of Forestry and Professional Development, Jewish National Fund – Keren Kayemet Le'Israel, and H.E. Mr. Hanan Goder-Goldberger, Ambassador of Israel to Nepal jointly unveiled a wall marking the Shalom Trail. Mr. Eizenband has come to Kathmandu from Israel especially for this event.

Jewish National Fund-Israel (KKL-JNF) prepared in Israel signs for this project, which is placed next to the important trees for their identification. These signs are expected to last for many years.

More than 100 environment and nature lovers, comprising of Shalom Club Nepal members, Businessmen, media persons, Israeli tourists and volunteers and the Israel Embassy family and 30 students and teachers from nearby Baundeshwor Higher Secondary School took part in the project.

The plan in the future is also to develop such a project in Israel dedicated for the people of Nepal.

The project aims to promote and protect important indigenous trees that are found in the area, make people aware of the medicinal values and their uses and encourage them to visit this beautiful place.
