    The Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu marked the 68th Independence Day of the State of Israel at a special celebration organized at the Hotel Yak and Yeti, in Kathmandu on 06 June 2016. The Right Honourable Mr. Nanada Bahadur Pun, Vice President of Nepal graced the event as the Chief Guest representing the Government of Nepal. High ranked Nepali Government Officials, bureaucrats, diplomats, businessmen and well-wishers of Israel were present to congratulate and celebrate the event.
     
    Marking the long standing friendship between Nepal and Israel, The Embassy honoured the first batch of Paratroopers from Nepal Army, trained in Para Trooping in Israel in 1965. Fifteen Para Troopers were trained in Israel by the Israeli experts for six months and later around 100 Para Troopers were trained in Israel for three weeks by these Nepalese Para Troopers. The Nepalese Para Troopers later on established Nepalese Parachute Unit in Nepal Army.
     
    Diplomatic ties between Nepal and Israel date back to 1960s and many projects have been undertaken till this date to mutually benefit both the countries and its peoples. As a part of Israel’s sharing knowhow with the developing world, MASHAV-Israel’s Agency for Development Cooperation, has been providing training to many Nepalese in Israel and in Nepal in various fields. Thousands of agriculture students have been to Israel as a part of collaboration to enable Nepali agriculture students explore in a practical environment. A pilot agreement that was recently signed between Nepal and Israel governments allows Nepalese aspirants to go to Israel for work in Israel as caregivers. In addition, there are people to people as well as private sector collaborations that are working in Nepal for the benefit of both nations.
