Consul General Ahuva Spieler recently hosted a Zikaron BaSalon (“Remembrance in the living room” in Hebrew) with Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss as guest of honour. Eva is Auschwitz survivor, author, internationally
renowned peace activist and stepsister of Anne Frank.The initiative follows the unique and authentic Israeli tradition
of people gathering together at home among family, friends and guests, to open
their hearts to the stories of the survivors, sing, think, read, talk and most
importantly – listen.
It was a very intimate and the most unforgettable evening
when guests from diverse background of professions and religions - diplomatic
representatives, academic and educational professionals, economic specialists
and businessmen, local artists and friends from the media - all in one room for
the remembrance and sharing.
Eva gave a testimony of her experience as a child in the
Holocaust, the hiding in Amsterdam and the incredible story of loss and survival
in Auschwitz death camp.
While local artist friends expressed their feelings through creative lens, with the recitation of passages from “The Diary of Anne Frank” with violin, solo contemporary dance and Chinese calligraphy performance.
