As we mark the 83rd anniversary of Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass, Consul General Amir Lati last night spoke at the opening of the exhibition "Jewish Life in Germany & Escape Destination Hong Kong" co-organised by the German Consulate in Hong Kong, Goethe-Institut Hongkong, the Hong Kong Heritage Project and other contributors. It is so important for us to remember and to educate young generation against antisemitism and any forms of racism.
A special chapter in the exhibition is the history of Hong Kong Jewish Community based on local research. During WWII, Hong Kong and Shanghai served as safe heavens for Jewish refugees, receiving visas for life from Chinese diplomat Ho Feng Shan and help from local Jewish members. The stories of Shanghai and Hong Kong at the time stand for a monument for humanity during the most inhuman period of all.
總領事藍天銘昨晚在展覽「猶太人在德國及來港逃難的生活」開幕致辭中，提到教育年青一代有關反猶主義和反種族主義的重要性，尤其是適逢過去兩天為「水晶之夜」－－在1938年11月9日至10日於德國和奧地利大規模襲擊猶太人事件的紀念日。
展覽由德國駐香港總領事館、香港歌德學院、和香港社會發展回顧項目合辦，不但介紹猶太社區在德國1700多年歷史，並增加了香港猶太社區的簡史。
二戰期間，不少在德國和奧地利猶太人受納粹逼害而被迫逃亡，部分家庭得到當時中國外交官何鳳山先生發出簽證逃至香港或上海，香港猶太社區更提供了不少援助。
公眾將首次目睹這段與香港戰前及戰時命運密切相關的歷史，一同見證猶太人在德國及逃亡至港的生活。
