Ido Akov, in his early 20s, began studying the piano at 9 years old with Marina Basin, and a year later with Hana Shalgi. At the age of 11 his family moved to San Francisco and he studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Meikui Matsushima and Professor Sharon Mann. Upon returning to Israel in the summer of 2008, he began his studies with Dr. Ron Regev at the Givatayim Conservatory and in the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts. Ido is now an undergraduate in the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance under a full scholarship.

In 2005 Ido won third place in the Bay Area Chopin Competition, in 2007 and 2008 he was selected to perform in the SF Junior Bach Festival, and in 2008 he won the Fremont Symphony competition and was given the opportunity to perform twice with the orchestra as a soloist. Ido also played as a soloist at the opening concert of the Lancaster Music Festival in Ohio with the Lancaster symphonic orchestra. Back in Israel, in 2009 Ido won first prize in his age group in the National “Piano Forever” competition that took place in the city of Ashdod, Israel. Consequently Ido played with the Ashdod symphony in December 2011, and later with the Thelma Yellin school orchestra in February 2011. In 2013, Ido participated at the “Young Artist Competition” (YAC) in Jerusalem, played with the IBA orchestra and won the Solange Jospé Prize - allowing him to perform in Hong Kong.

Ido is a four year America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship recipient (in piano as well as double bass), and has also participated in the past in the Jerusalem Music center's program for excellence in piano. Through this program he was invited to play in master classes for Murray Perahia, Andras Schiff, Richard Goode, Stefan Kovacevich and many others.
