Jewish Community urges members to donate for Nepal

  •

The communal organisations of the Jewish Community in Hong Kong - The Carmel School Association, The Jewish Women's Association of Hong Kong, The Ohel Leah Synagogue, The United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong and Chabad Hong Kong - join hands to raise funds for the emergency relief in Kathmandu after the devastating earthquake.

Many of the Nepalese staff at the Jewish Community Centre and schools have lost family homes, although thankfully they have not lost any relatives in this disaster.

As members of the Jewish community, we watch with pride as we learn that the Israeli army has been preparing to send a rescue mission to Nepal that includes 260 people who will fly to Kathmandu to set up a field hospital and search and rescue mission.

At the same time, we feel that it would be a great Kiddush Hashem, sanctification of God's name, and a great gesture of solidarity, to raise funds for disaster and emergency relief.

IsraAID is one of the recognized Jewish and Israeli organisations that are galvanising to support this disaster relief operation.  IsraAID were the first to make personal contact and send a transparent funding proposal for immediate and longer term aid and reconstruction. They have a track record of humanitarian aid in this region and have visited our community on previous occasions.

The Jewish Community urges its members to join in IsraAID’s plea for assistance.
