Dr York Chow to Israel

    Hong Kong SAR’s Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, led a delegation to Israel between April 25 and 30 to learn more about the country's healthcare and agriculture systems.

    The delegation met Israel's Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Ya'akov Litzman, to find out more about the country's healthcare system.  
     
    They visited some medical facilities including the Sheba Medical Centre, which is the largest hospital in Middle East and a leader in electronic health record sharing developments; Maccabi Healthcare Services, the second-largest health maintenance organisation in Israel; and a first aid and disaster relief organisation.

    The delegation also had a meeting with two medical technologies companies, and visited a technology transfer company and a pharmaceutical company to gain an understanding of Israel's medical technology industry as well as drug regulatory and monitoring system.

    On agriculture and food safety, the delegation called on the Director-General of Israel's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Safety, Mr Joseph Ishay, to exchange views on issues related to food safety and agricultural activities, followed by visits to an irrigation company, a company engaged in breeding, production and marketing of seeds of vegetables and field crops, as well as a greenhouse and a farm.

    Members of the delegation included Deputy Director of Health, Dr Gloria Tam, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Liu Kwei-kin, Director (Strategy and Planning) of the Hospital Authority, Dr Lo Su Vui, and member of the Steering Committee on the Centre of Excellence in Paediatrics of the Food and Health Bureau, Professor Fok Tai Fai.
