About one hundred guests attended, among them were: President of the Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs of the HKSAR Government Mr. So Kam-shing, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Mr. Fred Lam, rabbis and members of the Hong Kong Jewish community, consuls general, wine businessmen, experts and journalists.
Mr. Levy said the event was a part of his goal to promote the bi-lateral relations between Israel and Hong Kong. The Israeli Consulate in Hong Kong is trying to adjust and to match its activities accordingly to the Policy Address given by His Excellency Chief Executive Mr. Donald Tsang. Mr. Tsang mentioned that following the exemption of wine duty in February, the HKSAR Government had taken various measures to promote the development of wine-related businesses.
Mr. Victor Schoenfeld, Head Winemaker of Israel’s Yarden Golan Heights Winery, gave a presentation at the reception on the characteristic of the wine produced by the winery and the advanced technology applied. Mr. Schoenfeld is regarded as one of the architects of the revolution in Israel’s wine industry. He has been responsible for the winery’s reputation as a producer of world-class wines and for its winning numerous medals in international competitions. .
Mrs. Yael Gai, Deputy Director-General for International Sales and Marketing of the winery, said the aim of their visit was to open a window to quality Israeli wines in general and their wines in particular, and through that to learn about the opportunities in Hong Kong.
