Netta Barzilai, will represent Israel in Lisbon on May 2018 at the famous song contest, with “TOY”, already rising to the top of the Eurovision betting charts.
The young singer was cheered by the crowd on April 10 at the ‘Israel calling’ event, the Eurovision 2018’s largest pre-show.
Twenty seven representatives from all over Europe and Autralia came to Israel. Many countries were present to have a brief taste of the show such as France, United Kindom, Ireland, Denmark, Czek Republic, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belgium, Iceland, Switzerland and Romania. Some of the contestants came to Tel Aviv to evaluate the competition and discover the country as well as testing the reaction of the audience to their song
‘A turnout of 30,000 people screaming my name and singing the lyrics of toy with all of their hearts. I was left speechless and shaking, realizing that Israel made a huge step towards accepting and embracing diversity amongst themselves, and that's Big.’ Says Netta Barzilai, after her show on Tuesday night in Tel Aviv.
The composer of Netta’s song , Doron Medalie, very confident about Netta’s victory reacted after the show and said ‘ Everybody says it’s in the bag’.
The song combines oriental music with some pop-tracks, the lyrics of the song is about female empowerment.  In this era of ‘#METOO’, Netta chose to raise her voice and spread the message of social justice for woman. She could be a real model to all the young ladies, in pursuit of happiness and independence, in this area of Instagram fake perfection. The song is almost entirely in English and have only a few words in Hebrew : “ I am not your toy” very symbolic phrase of the song.
We will have to wait until May to know if the 40th participation of Israel in the song contest will be a success story and a victory for the country.
Israel won the contest in 1979 with ‘A-Ba-Ni-Bi’ and the year just after with Hallelujah and in 1998 with the song Diva, the last Israeli singer to win the Eurovision, Dana International, very supportive of Netta said she will jump into Rabbin sqare fountain if Barzilai wons the 2018 song contest. We hope the Israel public hold Dana to that promise.
Netta, 25 years old, performed in clubs and weddings in Tel Aviv. She has a unique look, which reflects her unique musical style.
On her Instagram account we noticed her song already reached 20 million views on Youtube in just 3 weeks. Indeed on the Eurovision website, the bookmakers has predicted Israel as winner, Israeli Netta is, at the moment, the new favorite to win the song contest.
