Israel opens relations with Turkmenistan

    ​In a festive ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan inaugurated the permanent building of the Israeli Embassy in Ashgabat, which is situated 17 km from the Iranian border.

    The ceremony was attended by foreign ambassadors, including ambassadors from the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan and the USA, as well as representatives of the small Jewish community living in the country.

    The event concludes an important and historic diplomatic visit by FM Cohen, during which he met with the President of Turkmenistan and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture.
    FM Cohen: "Turkmenistan is a very important country in Central Asia and an energy powerhouse situated in a strategic location. We discussed ways to deepen relations between the countries and cooperation between the foreign ministries, governments and the business sector.

    “The opening of our permanent embassy today strengthens the relationship between the two countries and will encourage cooperation between the governments and between the economies in the fields of technology, agriculture and regional security."​
