Foreign Minister Yair Lapid landed in Bahrain on Thursday - the first highest-level official Israeli visit since the establishment of formal relations last year.
First on the agenda - the inauguration of Israel's embassy in Manama and talks with Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
An Israeli Ministry spokesperson told reporters that five MOUs will be signed including hospitals and water and power utilities.
An additional 12 memorandums of understanding have already been signed affecting transportation, agriculture, communication, and financial services.
And yet, some in quarters anger has been expressed over the Gulf states breaking with an Arab consensus preventing relations with Israel so long as the Palestinian problem remains unresolved.
Thus, no Israeli flags were visible on main roads, and activists have called for further protests.
"We see Bahrain as an important partner, on the bilateral level but also as a bridge to cooperate with other countries in the region," the spokesperson said
