Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi today (Thursday, 9 December 2021), hosted Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid for a long and warm meeting at the El-Thadiya Palace in Cairo.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed several core issues:
Iran's attempts to attain military nuclear capability, its continued use of terrorism and the threat it poses to the Middle East.
The situation in the Gaza Strip. FM Lapid presented his “Economy for Security” plan, and also addressed the issue of the prisoners of war and missing persons. FM Lapid expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s special, central role in the issue.
Dealing with terrorist entities and the instability in the region.
The Palestinian issue and the steps taken by the Israeli government to strengthen the Palestinian Authority and help solve economic challenges.
The desire to strengthen the peace between the two countries in civilian spheres of economics, energy, agriculture and trade.
After the meeting, FM Lapid issued the following statement: “Egypt is a particularly important strategic partner of Israel. My goal is to strengthen our relations with Egypt on security, political and economic issues. It is important to continue to strive for peace between the two peoples. I thank President al-Sisi, whose contribution to the region and to our bilateral relationship is of historical dimensions, for the hospitality and for the warm and open meeting and look forward to the continuation of the dialogue between us.”
