Today (Monday, 23 August 2021), the first online training course dedicated to Pacific Islands' participants on Agricultural Extension for Intensive Vegetable Production was successfully concluded. The training took place over an 8 month period (January – August 2021) in the framework of the MASHAV- IPFSA (Israel-Pacific Food Security Alliance) development program, which was officially announced by the President of Israel H.E. Reuven Rivlin, together with the Pacific Island leaders, during their historic summit meeting on February 20, 2020 in Nadi.
Forty-two professionals from 9 Pacific Island States: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Samoa and Solomon Islands - participated in this first of its kind training to the Pacific Islands, which included topics such as - extension methods and tools, participative approaches, planning, digitizing extension and integrating gender into agricultural development programs. At the end of the course, participants were taken on a virtual guided tour of Jerusalem.
At the closing ceremony, Ambassador Tibor Shalev-Schlosser congratulated the graduates for having successfully finished the course and for joining the ranks of over 300,000 MASHAV alumni. Oded Halamit, Evelyn Rosenthal and Tammy Erann-Soussan of MATC joined in the congratulations and emphasized that this is only the first activity of many that are planned for the Pacific Islands in the framework of the MASHAV-IPFSA development program.
