Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid today (Monday, 17 January 2022) issued the following statement condemning a drone attack in Abu Dhabi by Iranian-backed Yemenite rebels:
“I strongly condemn today’s drone attack in Abu Dhabi and send my condolences to the families of those killed and my wishes for a speedy recovery to those wounded. Israel stands with the United Arab Emirates.
“We call on the international community to strongly condemn such attacks and to act immediately so that Iran and its proxies will not have the tools to continue to undermine regional security and harm innocent people.”
Two Indian and one Pakistani citizens were killed Monday when Iranian-backed Houthi rebels attacked a key oil facility in Abu Dhabi. Police believe the attack was executed using drones, while Houthi rebels claimed the attack during a period when their forces in Yemen are being drawn back by Saudi-backed government forces.
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, UK Foreign Minister, Liz Truss and French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian were among other world leaders who condemned the attack.
