The opening ceremony of Expo 2020 took place last week (Thursday, 30 September 2021) in Dubai. The exposition will be the third-largest event in the world, following the Olympic Games and the World Cup, hosting 191 countries, including Israel, for six months. The number of visitors is expected to exceed 25 million, mostly from the Gulf States.

This will be the first time that the State of Israel launches a national pavilion at an event of this magnitude in an Arab country. The invitation to participate in the event was extended in 2018, prior to the decision to establish official relations between the State of Israel and the United Arab Emirates. The establishment of the Israeli pavilion was headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The steering committee, which includes 17 different government ministries, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Israel Electric Company, is headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office.

The launching ceremony of the Israeli pavilion took place on Wednesday, 6 October 2021 in the presence of Minister of Tourism Yoel Razvozov and with the participation of Ministry of Tourism Director-General Amir Halevi, MFA Deputy Director-General for Media and Public Affairs Noam Katz and the Commissioner-General of Israel's EXPO 2020 Pavilion, Elazar Cohen.

Because of its proximity to the pavilion of the host country, some 15 million visitors are expected to visit the Israeli pavilion.

The Israel pavilion, which was created by the AVS company, will be launched under the theme ‘Connecting Thoughts - Creating the Future’ and the title ‘To Tomorrow’ - نحو الغد.’ The pavilion is inspired by the desert dunes shared by Israel and the Gulf states. The pavilion was designed without walls and checkpoints, and transmits openness and invitation, exposing Israeli content even to those who do not enter the pavilion. The design reflects the concept that the power of the future connects us and that, creating a better future for all of humanity is within reach if we connect minds and unite forces. The sub-categories chosen to lead the expo are opportunity, mobility and sustainability, enabling Israel to present its capabilities in a variety of areas, such as agriculture, cyber, medical equipment and instruments, water technologies, and more.

The Israeli pavilion is expected to host a variety of economic events, conferences and business meetings in the fields of smart transportation, agriculture, water, fintech, medicine, science and space, artificial intelligence, health, cyber protection, renewable energy, tourism, sustainability, social economy, and more. In addition, dozens of business delegations from Israel and around the world are expected to visit the pavilion and hold business meetings.
