Grants totaling NIS 6.5 million will be awarded to 5 startups that will conduct pilots on 5G infrastructure. The winning companies: Novelsat, Flycomm, Enquantum, Antisep-Tech and InsidePacket. The pilot is part of other steps that the Ministry is taking in the world of 5G, that include investments of NIS 50 million in encouraging the deployment of 5G infrastructure and the establishment of an inter-Ministerial team to examine the development of advanced communications infrastructure.

The winners of the “sixth round” of funding in the 5G pilot program in the cellular domain
The seventh round of investments is open for submission until August 22, 2023

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Shlomo Karai, stated: “The 5G revolution is already here. This is wonderful news for the Israeli economy, Israeli industry and the Israeli public.
5G enables the development of innovative applications in a variety of fields and delivers a significant breakthrough.

Delivery drones, smart traffic lights that avoid traffic jams, smart hospitals and other new applications are the good news that the 5G revolution brings with it.

The pilot program we are implementing will ensure that Israel continues to be a leading actor in the global hi-tech field and will advance the country to front and center on the global technological stage. We are currently working on materializing a budget that we obtained for the first time, of 50 million Shekels, for the implementation of 5G applications in the market, in parallel to an inter-Ministerial team examining the adaptation of incentives and the development of communications infrastructures for the new era.”

The Acting Director General of the Ministry of Communications, Maimon (Moni) Shamila, stated: “Remote specialist physician healthcare diagnosis and treatment through augmented and integrated reality, a smart stadium that broadcasts a sports event to a smartphone from different camera angles and gives the sensation of a live game, delivery drones and autonomous vehicles – all of these are already here and, thanks to startups that have won our grants and similar companies, Israel is being catapulted to the forefront of technological activity in the world of 5G.

The 5G revolution in Israel has begun and we will make every effort to support the Israeli hi-tech industry, whose people are the secret of its success.

Our broad support for the promotion of 5G also brings, for the first time this year, an additional investment of approximately NIS 50 million in encouraging the deployment of 5G infrastructure all over the country.

Together with companies that will adopt the technology, Israel will soon be a world leader in the field.”

The Director General of the Israel Innovation Authority, Dror Bin, stated: “The new developments in 5G technology are expected to be the cutting edge of smart technologies in the coming years and the demand for them is expected to increase worldwide. The 5G infrastructure is a technology that will significantly affect and improve our lives – from autonomous driving, through fast and reliable connectivity in a smart city environment and up to and including the efficiency of remote healthcare and medicine systems.
In order to maximize the technology, an examination of unique and innovative business models is required, as we have seen in the pilot programs that have won grants so far.”
The Ministry of Communications and the Israel Innovation Authority today (Tuesday) published the Research Committee’s decisions to approve the provision of grants for the sixth round of conducting experimental commissioning programs (“pilot programs”) in a 5G cellular environment.

The purpose of the program is to support the expansion of the use of the 5G network in Israel and to develop innovative applications based on the infrastructure.
The various nominations for grants were thoroughly examined by teams of experts consisting of examiners from the Israel Innovation Authority and the Ministry of Communications and, after discussions held at the Research Committee of the Israel Innovation Authority, 5 more companies won approval to carry out the pilot programs and obtain grants of up to 50% of the cost of the projects.

The programs approved for the winning companies:

Novelsat – will conduct a pilot program for the distribution of video content in real time to the audience in a sports stadium over a 5G network, using edge computing and advanced video processing technologies. Through the 5G network, viewers will be able to enjoy new experiences and choose from a number of cameras videoing at different angles, using their mobile phone and this, without the need to establish a private local communication network, which requires migration of the viewers’ devices to the private core. For the benefit of the pilot program, Novelsat will use Cellcom’s advanced 5G network.

Flycomm – will conduct a pilot program for the supply of a software system that will enable accessibility, management, and optimization of connectivity for all road users, which will be fed from 5G sensors dynamically and in real-time.

In the era of 5G, smart transportation requires high-quality communications coverage.
In practice, today’s connectivity is sorely lacking, is not controlled, and is not managed.
Flycomm has developed a software platform integrated with hardware, for monitoring, managing, and planning the wireless communication expanse.

The software implements advanced algorithms and AI models that enable the analysis of the expanse with various wireless technologies and the generation of insights for the users of the system regarding the state of the network in the expanse.

The system will be demonstrated along a section of the Israel Roads highway, which, looking ahead to the age of smart transportation, is interested in knowing and examining the state of the infrastructure in each of the areas relevant to this era.

As part of the pilot program, the company will provide a software system that enables accessibility, management, and optimization of connectivity for all road users, fed by dedicated sensors that will be installed along the section of the highway.

Equantum – as part of the pilot program, a private SA 5G network with Edge Computing, based on the product, will be established at the beta site of one of the leading skyscraper construction groups in Israel.

In the pilot, products will be tested to improve the safety of construction workers and to improve the group’s construction processes.

The group’s beta site is also used by architects and contractors for construction planning, which will expose the key factors in the construction industry to the potential of establishing a private 5G network at construction sites and in the maintenance of skyscrapers and will lead to an increase in the deployment of 5G in Israel.

Antisep-Tech – The Hospitals Division of the Ministry of Health, the Antisep-Tech company and the Redevi company are teaming up to adapt and make an AI solution available that is capable of extracting and presenting, in real time, existing and unseen critical information, which will contribute to improving patient protection and safety in institutions and home care through the 5G network – monitoring of patient falls, monitoring of pressure sores and a revolution in intubated ventilation and monitoring of the extraction of the breathing tube in intubated patients.

InsideFact – will conduct a joint pilot program with the HOT Mobile company to implement the company’s solution in the 5G network targeting HOT Mobile’s business customers.
As part of the technological transition to 5G, HOT Mobile is investing in the production of technological solutions in order to improve the added value proposals for business customers by providing connectivity to private and public clouds, connection to MEC and Edge. The implementation of inside packet technologies will enable the activation of NaaS (Network as a Service) services for business customers and the creation of additional revenue channels for the operators by providing additional services over and above connectivity, connection to the clouds, security services etc.

The solution will enable the provision of a resolution to the needs of customers during the digital transformation of customers, over and above connectivity.
