Recently, Lan
Tianming, the Consul-General of the Consulate General of Israel in Chengdu, was
invited to participate in "Tianfu Entrepreneurship - Jingronghui -
Agriculture" special event held in Pengzhou, Sichuan. The event, under the
theme "wisdom of agriculture to create the future", attracted over
500 directors and officials from government, universities, agricultural
research institutes, well-known venture capital institutions, innovation and
entrepreneurship agencies, as well as the Municipal Agricultural Commission,
Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and other relevant departments.
Consul-General
Lan Tianming delivered a speech at the meeting.
The
Consul-General pointed out that Israel and China have much in common, and
agriculture plays a vital role in both countries. He also shared the
experiences of agricultural development in Israel.
He introduced
the situation of Israel and the situation of agriculture in Israel with facts
and data. Israel has a lot of agricultural technological innovations. Although
agriculture is a traditional industry, agriculture in Israel is no longer
"traditional" because it contains many high-tech and modern
technologies. The number of people engaged in agriculture has continued to
decline, but agricultural output has increased. Owing to the development of
modern agricultural science and technology, only 1% of the population has
created agricultural production that meets 95% of the country's agricultural
demands.
He also
mentioned that agricultural innovation needs government support: appropriate
proportion of investment shall come to agricultural research and development,
and sufficient educational resources are necessary to foster more agricultural
innovation talents, scientific researchers, farmers to work in
agriculture-related industries, to achieve breakthroughs in agricultural
science and technology, and to promote the development of agriculture.
Finally, he
also introduced the agricultural cooperation between China and Israel in
southwest of China, and looked forward to a better future of cooperation
between Israel and Sichuan.
