On 14th March, Israeli Consulate General held the opening ceremony, which marks the consulate official location’s being set for more than one year. The permanent address of the consulate is 17th floor, The Atrium, No.99 Dongda Street, Jinjiang District, Chengdu.
The Israeli Ambassador Matan Vilnai paid a special visit to Chengdu to attend the opening ceremony. During the interview, Matan told the media that Israeli attached great importance to South-western China, “Israel has closed many consulates in other areas and regions around the world due to the budget, but meanwhile, it insisted to open a new consulate in Chengdu.”Matan said that setting a new consulate in Chengdu was a controversial topic In Israel at the very beginning, but now he considers it as a wise decision.
Reporters noticed an Israeli mosaic tile paved at the center of the room, showing a distinctive Middle East flavor.
Temporarily located on 12th Floor, No.99 Dongda Street, the Israeli Consulate General in Chengdu once opened on 17th November, 2016, with Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Chongqing as its consulate district. Now it moved from the temporary location on the 12th floor to the permanent one on the 17th floor, with a three times larger space and an uninterrupted view of Chunxi business district.
“The whole process of the relocation was also in Israeli style”, said a consular officer. Everyone packed their office material in advance and moved quickly on the relocation day.
