Memorable and Valuable Experience in an International Training on Green Economy

It is my great honor to participate the international training program on “Green Economy – Policy Measures and Implementation of Green Growth” in Israel from 22 July to 15 August in 2013. The training was organized by MASHAV and Weitz Center in cooperation with UNEP, UNIDO and the World Bank. Over 30 public officials, environmental leaders, and policy makers from 19 different developing countries took part in the professional program. There were four Chinese participants, two from Shenzhen, one from Shanghai, and one from Hangzhou.

Green Economy is the theme of the training program.  The theory and case studies of green economy were systematically introduced in the program. The strategies for green growth, e.g. implementation of renewable energy, improvement of water efficacy and promotion of local and national initiatives were discussed in the class. We also learnt an e-course of the World Bank Institute on “Energy Sector Strategies to Promote Green Growth” and discussed with the WBI officer through video. Furthermore, some experts help us to improve public speaking skill and become more productive. Through efficient communication, we  successfully formulated several projects which had the potential to be implemented in different countries.

In order to learn some practical experiences, we were arranged to visit Municipal Officials, Local Communities and some companies. We learn from Raanana Municipal Officials  that it is not easy to change people’s ideas and habits, the government should adopt all kinds of measures to broadcast environmental awareness and to encourage environmental friendly activities. We investigated the measures  to reserve water and energy by the local residents in their own house during visiting Qasr Asir Bedouin Community. We also investigated the comprehensive solutions to improve urban water efficiency by communicating with the local water companies. I like these field visits since it made me better understanding practical resolutions of realizing green economy.
This training program also provided us with a good platform to share the experiences from different countries. The participants from 19 countries introduced their countries’ geographic, social and economic conditions, folklore and culture, and experiences on green growth through country presentation. We learnt a lot from each other in a short time.

The most memorable part of this training program was to visit Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem. I was deeply moved by the miserable holocaust videos and pictures. It is a good way to remind the world of the importance of the peace and the cruelty of the war. I admired Israeli’s courage and dedication to rebuild their homeland in spite of the hostile natural conditions. We also visited the most famous Dead Sea. How beautiful it is! I would like to enjoy the magic water as long as I can.

Generally, this training program is a very good learning and exchange opportunity. This training experience is valuable and unforgettable in my whole life. It enriched my knowledge, expanded my international vision, and helped a lot in my career. I will dedicate myself to transferring my experiences in Israel and thinking on sustainable eco-city through publication, conference, and meeting with relevant government branches.

Therefore I want to thank Miss Feng in Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou, who provides me this application opportunity and helps a lot in specific application and preparation; Jeremy Ben-Shalom in Weitz Center, the tutor of the training program, who gave us a lot of guidance, advice and suggestion. And I also want to thank other staff in Weitz Center and MASHAV, the specific organizers of this training program, who provided us this perfect opportunity and arranged a lot of things for us, including speeches, field visits, excursion, board and lodging.

I am very honored that I was chosen to be a participant of the Israel Mashav Program – Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Education System which was held from 10th March to 3rd April, 2014. We had 22 teachers, educators and researchers from 11 countries all over the world, India, Ecuador, Kenya, Ghana, Nepal, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan and China.

I surely felt a big difference even if we were together like a big happy family in such short time. The 25-day course training not only increased my professional knowledge but also gave me the platform to pursue what I am most passionate about. The well- organized and particularly- designed courses gave me lots of opportunities to try new things and develop myself mentally and spiritually. I cherished the chance to interact with the very creative individuals from different colleges and countries, and this wonderful experience provided me with a widened perspective and enlarged my vision as well as my social circle. I update my educational methodology theory and the newest knowledge in the world.

I benefited a lot from this well-designed Mashav training course and also from this wonderful multiple-culture group members, because Mashav believes that its greatest possible contribution to developing countries can be made in fields where Israel has relevant expertise accumulated during its own development experience. In this Mashav's program, conducted through workshops and training in the fields of education, our group members were eager to share with each other the know-how and technologies, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and educational equality. All of us tried to think out of the box--- to be innovative in education. “Entrepreneurship” is not only the discovery of new solutions to existing problems but also the creative connections of existing parameters into a new strategy dealing with existing challenges. We believe that education is the most important experience of life and education is the most powerful weapon and it will change the students’ life. We should prepare students with the challenges they’ll meet in life. Students need to know more about how to handle life. We should prepare students with quality education, being ready to open-minded and challenge to any ideas. We should develop the curricular according to the needs of education system and students and help students improve their learning improvements. This Mashav's program gives us teachers the newest vision and the best tool to further develop ourselves in our field.

The key to improving education is not more money but better-quality teaching. This is the direction of education our college has always search for. It is the definite direction and function for colleges to foster high-level professionals of innovative spirits and practical abilities, and utilize the advantages in talents to provide services for the economic and social development in the regions. What is education meant for, what can students gain from college besides diploma? Teaching is no longer and should not have been the priority, but cultivating sound personalities, self-confidence, learning abilities of student is the foremost theme of education. With these, what can not a student achieve?
