Yom Hazikaron is dedicated to the memory of fallen Israeli soldiers and victims of terrorism. On this day we mark the great sacrifice Israelis made for their country.
This memorial day begins with a siren, during which the entire country stops for a moment and stays silent in memory of the victims.
At 11:00 a.m. of the following morning, a two-minute siren sounds and the official memorial services begin. On this day private memorial gatherings take place at the cemeteries all around the country. On Yom Hazikaron, many Israelis visit the resting places of their loved ones.
In homes, military camps, schools, synagogues and public places, memorial candles are lit and flags are flown at half-mast. Throughout the day, acting and retired military personnel serve as honor guards at war memorials across the country, and families of the fallen attend memorial services at military cemeteries.
We will never forget...
